Carolyn was born on September 10, 1940, in Adrian, MI, the daughter of Clayton and Hazel (Wenzel) Setzler. She graduated from Blissfield High School in 1958.
It was a bright and sunny day on June 19, 1965, when Carolyn married her sweetheart Robert “Kirk” Bettis at Blissfield Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with 58 years together before Kirk’s passing in 2024.
Carolyn worked in several professional dental and optometrist offices for 31 years. She enjoyed working at Kay Jewelers for 13 years. Carolyn and Kirk were faithful members of Blissfield Presbyterian Church for many years, where Carolyn served as an elder. She and Kirk enjoyed travelling and camping in their travel trailer. Carolyn was always willing to help others in need and she would often volunteer to take care of the many children in her family, that’s how she earned her nickname “Aunt Kay”. She was an animal lover who spoiled all the dogs in her neighborhood by giving them treats whenever she saw them. Carolyn also enjoyed spending time in her garden tending to her beautiful flowers.
Carolyn is survived by nieces and nephews, William Brenke, Nancy Paul, Rosemarie Salyer, Linda Ganun, Sue Ellen Mapes, Sandy Setzler and Sally Cilley; sisters-in-law, Barbara Moll and Suzanne (Jerry) Saxton; brother-in-law, John “Dick” Saxton, along with many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kirk and brothers, John Setzler and Maurice Setzler, sister Marilyn Brenke, niece, Mary Lou Brenke.
