Benjamin Todd Howarth, age 53, of Adrian, died Friday, April 18, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, while under the compassionate care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian on September 1, 1971, the firstborn child of Benjamin and Laurel (Ackelson) Howarth.
A lifelong Adrian resident, Todd graduated from Adrian High School with the Class of 1990. He furthered his education at Washtenaw Community College, where he obtained a license as a Journeyman Electrician. Todd was proud to be in his 33rd year of employment with Kirchoff Automotive in Tecumseh, and was a member of the UAW Local 3000.
Todd married his soulmate, Jill Kathleen Brugger, on July 1, 1995, in Las Vegas, NV. Together they raised two daughters and enjoyed nearly 30 years of love, laughter and devoted companionship.
A lover of nature, Todd had a deep appreciation for gardening, birdwatching, fishing, and quiet walks outside. He was proud of his saltwater fish tank and loved to spend time with his beloved canine companions, Rika and Paisley. He also enjoyed antiquing and pinball, and was an avid Michigan State University Spartans football fan.
Remembered for his vibrant and caring personality and his contagious laugh, Todd loved to make others laugh with his ever-present sarcasm and witty humor, even in the midst of his recent health battle. He was always present and involved as a father, and recently found new joy in serving as “Pops” to Beckham “Ham”, with whom he shared a precious bond. Todd’s short life on earth made a great impact on many, and he will be profoundly missed.
Left to celebrate his legacy in addition to his wife, Jill, are his two daughters, Courtney (Jacob) Allen of Blissfield and Alexis (Braydin) Evans of Adrian; his mother, Laurel Ackelson-Howarth of Adrian; his father, Benjamin Howarth of Adrian; sister, Megan (Jason) Boring of Adrian; grandchildren, Beckham Evans, and Sage, Kigan and Kaylee Allen; his parents-in-law, David and Phyllis Brugger of Clayton; his siblings-in-law, Sheila Brugger of Adrian, Vicky (Dan) Pare of Dearborn, MI, Kris Perez of Adrian, Heidi Brugger of Ocala, FL, and Clint (Christy) Brugger of Clayton; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Todd was preceded in death by twin grandchildren in 2022; his brother-in-law, Kevin Brugger; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his mother-in-law, Rosemary Kay Brugger.
In accordance with Todd’s wishes, cremation will take place. A private family committal will take place in Dover Center Cemetery. Details on a public celebration of life will be announced in the coming days.
