Adrian, MI – Lenawee County is beginning its multi-step process to build the 2026 budget and officials say this one will be a big one. County administration says it all starts with the Board of Commissioners approving the budget cycle, kicking off a months-long collaboration between departments and the administrative team.
The budget includes everything from staffing and operational needs to long-term capital projects: brick-and-mortar work, vehicle purchases, tech upgrades, and improvements to county parks. One major cost driver this year: the final phase of Lenawee County’s three-year wage and compensation study. Here is Lenawee County Administrator Kim Murphy…
Murphy went on to say that the county is also preparing to open a $20 million expansion at the Maurice Spear Campus, which will begin housing juveniles as early as March or April, 2026…
As with every budget cycle, the county is working to forecast both expenditures and revenues, including estimates on property values, which remain one of Lenawee’s largest sources of funding.
In addition to the 2026 budget, the county will also project out three to five years to guide long-term planning. The board may take action on this at their regular meeting later today.
