Maria Melquiades Torres Arellano, age 96, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and under the care of Harmony Cares Hospice.

Maria was born on December 11, 1928, in Fraccion de la Concepcion (Enrique Estrada), San Luis Potosi, Mexico, the daughter of Damacio and Dionicia (Aguilar) Torres. She grew up in El Rancho de La Concha a beautiful village near the city of San Luis Potosi. Her Mom passed away when Maria was very young, and her beloved older sister Goya was there to help raise her. On December 11, 1948, which happened to be her 20th birthday, Maria married Maurilio Arellano in Hidalgo, Texas and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2004. Together they raised a family of 5 children. Maria loved gardening and taking care of all her beautiful roses around her home. She worked in Harlingen, Texas at a shrimp factory from 1949-1965. Maria loved her children dearly and was a courageous, strong woman who worked tirelessly to provide for her family. A visionary at heart, she always looked ahead-working hard in her younger years to acquire property and build a better future for her children. Later in life, she settled in Adrian, Michigan where she was surrounded by the love of her five children. In her final years, Maria resided in Adrian until October 2023, she moved to Potterville, Michigan to live with her daughter, Irma Arellano, where she was lovingly cared for and cherished by her family.

Maria is survived by her loving family, son, Maurilio (Yolanda) Arellano of Grand Ledge, MI, daughter, Maria (Sam) Faz of Adrian, MI, son, Robert (Diane) of Winfield, IN, Jayne Arellano (devoted partner, Scott Otto) of Monroe, MI and daughter, Irma Arellano of Potterville, MI; grandchildren, Marisol and Hector Arroyo, Maurilio Arellano III, Javier Faz, Zachary Arellano, Jasmine Arellano, Vincent Otto, Kallista Otto, Arryana Otto, Oscar Cortez III, Selina (David) Turner, Miguel Cortez, Gabriel Cortez; and a nephew who she loved dearly as a son, Ruben Salazar, great grandchildren, Armando Arroyo, Jesus Arroyo, Nayeli Arroyo, Isaiah Faz, Dominic Otto, Vera Mae Richards, Daisy Jade Turner, Austynn Mae Arellano, Benicio Arellano, Jayden Alexander Arellano, Avery Grace Arellano and Annaleia Sage Arellano; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
