Mary Ann was born on March 19, 1932, in Adrian, MI, daughter of Herbert and Lillian (Thompson) Clark. She graduated from Catholic Central in Adrian. On May 31, 1952, she married Gordon E. Britten at St. Mary of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Adrian, becoming a wife, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
During her lifetime, Mary Ann was employed as a telephone operator, real estate agent, and a secretary for both Tom Prange Auto Village and Lenawee County Public Schools for many years before retiring. She enjoyed being outdoors. In earlier years, she enjoyed scuba diving with Gordie. She, with her family, spent time tending to their garden, including canning their fruits and vegetables over the years. She was an avid reader, bargain hunter, and also belonged to a bridge club that she enjoyed for many years with her dear sisters-in-law and friends. She was an active member of the Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy and went on many adventures with them across the country. She volunteered at Hidden Lake Gardens in the Irish Hills, was an animal lover who cared for just about all the neighborhood strays and passed on her love of nature and animals to her children. She also volunteered as a caregiver at the Adrian Dominican Life Center at Siena Heights in Adrian.
She adored her grandchildren, whether watching movies while eating popcorn, hiking in our country’s great parks, or bird watching in the backyard. Her travels to Italy and across Ireland with her sister-in-law were counted among her favorite adventures.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Michael) Mulski of Nashua, NH, Shawn Wells of Fremont, MI, Craig Britten of Port Orchard, WA and Diane (Charles) Burns of Clarkston, MI; grandchildren, Hunter (Zoe) Britten of Port Orchard, WA and Jessie Burns of Clarkston, MI; great grandchild, Charli Britten; sister-in-law, Marilyn Britten; brother-in-law, Keith Hurlbut; daughter-in-law, Cindy Britten; along with other extended family members.
