Jean A. Yarger, age 92, of Manitou Beach passed away on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025, at ProMedica Hickman Hospital in Adrian, Michigan with her loving husband, Chet, and her family by her side.
Jean was born on May 30, 1932, on the family farm in Ida, Michigan to Carl and Alma (Roswurm) Burwitz. Jean would marry her high school sweetheart Chet Yarger on October 25, 1952, at West Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ida, MI, and he survives. The two celebrated 72 years of marriage together. Their marriage was a shining example of love and affection.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She adored her family, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. She spent time working under the Academic Dean at Hillsdale College, and enjoyed many years as a stay at home mother, caring for her children, and then helping out with grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandson. She dearly loved them all.
Jean was a woman of very strong faith, character, and integrity. She was a member of the Addison Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and played the organ and piano for over 50 years. In 2016 she became a member of Lutheran Church of the Lakes and enjoyed singing in the church choir with Chet. She loved her church family and friends. She was always willing to assist a friend in need and help with any church functions. She was a member of the women’s fellowship group, church softball league, women’s bowling team, and Addison Senior Center. Jean enjoyed singing, playing piano and organ, traveling with family, attending her grandchildren’s school and college events, and watching sporting events, especially those of her children and grandchildren. She would often prepare food for the entire team and coaches, at sporting events. She enjoyed trips out west and to Florida with her husband Chet, sister Jane, and brother-in-law Lee, and to the Keweenaw Peninsula to visit family. She loved playing cards with family, friends, and at the Senior Center. She was an especially savvy euchre player with a great sense of humor and wit. Jean loved to host family dinners and holiday gatherings. Her home was always a warm and inviting place, that smelled of fresh baked goods and home cooked meals. Family and friends were always greeted with a hug and a smile at the door.
Jean is survived by her husband Chet, daughter Cheryl (Jerry) Boner, son Dave (Pam) Yarger, grandson Jason (Brie) Morris, grandson Austin Yarger, great grandchildren Alex (Jessica) Morris, Allison Morris, Kylie Morris, Veda Arno and Addy Arno, and great-great grandson Emmett Morris, brother-in-law Olin Yarger, and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Genevieve and Robert Yarger, sister Jane Kreps, brother-in-law Lee Kreps, and brother-in-law Orville Yarger.
The family wishes to thank the many family members, friends, caregivers and neighbors who cared for and visited Jean. She was blessed by you all.
There will be no visitation. A family service is planned at Lutheran Church of the Lakes with Pastor Jim Weist officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Church of the Lakes Music Ministry.
Arrangements have been made with the guidance of the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home, Addison.
