Tecumseh, MI – The Lenawee County Board of Commissioners discussed the former Tecumseh Products site at their recent evening meeting.

The 50-plus-acre parcel off of Evans Street, was purchased by Lenawee County in the Fall of 2021 for $2.3 million with an idea in mind to construct a multi-use community recreational facility nicknamed Project Phoenix.

The project was shelved in 2022, citing lack of funding and opposition from some residents, with a new commission voting the project down 6 to 3. Since that time there have been a couple of presentations to the board about potential uses for the site, but nothing has materialized.

The Commission recently decided to not accept proposals for industrial uses on the site. In fact, the City of Tecumseh adopted the ‘Evans Street Corridor Plan,’ which changed the Master Plan for the area…recommending changes to zoning.

No official action was taken during the recent evening meeting of the County Commission. Chairman Jim Van Doren said that there would be a meeting between people with the County and officials in Tecumseh about the future of the former Tecumseh Products site.
