Monroe, MI – With construction season upon us, motorists in Monroe County are encouraged to obey traffic signs and barricades placed on roadways throughout the County.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists that road barricades are not suggestions and serve multiple purposes, including:
• Preventing access: They physically block entry to areas with potential hazards, such as construction sites and work zones.
• Warning of hazards: They alert people to potential dangers such as road closures, detours, or the presence of an emergency.
• Guiding Traffic: They help direct traffic flow and detour routes
•Work Zones: They help to keep workers safe in work zones.
The Road Commission has recently experienced barricades and signs being disregarded, moved, damaged, and stolen from various areas within Monroe County.
The public is reminded that it is unlawful for any person to destroy, damage, move, remove, or disregard any barrier put in place to protect the public from immediate danger.
