Arthur William Liewert – Blissfield

BLISSFIELD- Arthur William Liewert of Blissfield, Michigan, passed away Monday evening, March 24, 2025, at Medilodge of Monroe. He had just reached a new milestone this past weekend turning 85 yrs old.

Art was born on March 22, 1940, in Adrian, MI, the son of William F. and Louise M. (Tornow) Liewert. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1958 and went on to attend Michigan State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

On October 20, 1962, Art married Joan Lipp and they were blessed with three children, Paul, Janet and Faith. For the next 37 years, Art and Joan were kept busy raising their family, traveling, and growing the family business. Joan passed away in 1999. Art married Irma (Auber) Ferguson on November 7, 2009, and was fortunate to add two more daughters and their families to the Liewert family tree.

For over 40 years, Art worked in the family business of Sprunk & Liewert Plumbing and Heating. He was an instructor at Owens Community College from 1999 to 2013, where he taught students the trade of plumbing. Art was devout in his Christian faith and was a longtime member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Riga. He served as a volunteer for the Adrian Symphony and for the Department of Aging. Art was a regular at the Bliss-Liewert Senior Center. He also enjoyed tending to his garden, especially taking care of his roses. His sense of humor, storytelling and jokes would always put a smile on the faces of his friends and family. Above all else, Art will be remembered as a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Irma, Art is survived by his daughters, Janet (Mark) Mick and Faith Liewert, Carol (Mark) Knoblauch and Kathy (Mike) Dancho; grandchildren, Krista (Jacque) Pruitt, Paul (Alice) Liewert, Justin Mick, Katie (Travis) Gehrke Jacob and Daniel Knoblauch, Afton and Devon White; great grandchildren, Elias, Madeline, Louisa, Sawyer, Hudson and Océan-Céleste. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Joan; son, Paul Liewert and brother, Thomas (Sue) Liewert.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor William Finn officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 4-7:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel, Blissfield.
