Adrian, MI – Adrian Fire Chief Aric Massingill gave a presentation to the Adrian City Commission regarding damages from the major fire which struck West Maumee Street on Saturday.
According to Massingill, departments were called in to the 100 block of West Maumee earlier in the day after receiving reports of arcing wires, but no cause for the fire has been identified. Massingill showed the Commission footage of the fire captured by a drone using thermal imaging technology. The drone is owned by the county, and this marks the first time it has been used to help fight a fire.
WLEN News was able to speak with Chief Massingill about how the drone was able to help the department contain the fire…
Buildings damaged in the fire include Diamond Jim’s Pool Hall and the former WABJ building, and Massingill says that damage was mostly contained to their roofs…
Arcing is defined as: “…when electricity jumps a gap in a circuit or between two conductors, creating a visible spark and potentially intense heat.”
