Tecumseh, MI – The City of Tecumseh held a budget study session at their City Council meeting Monday night. Department heads representing departments within Tecumseh’s local government spoke to the council about their revenue and expenditures for the previous fiscal year, and what they expect their budgetary needs to be in the 2025 through 2026 fiscal year.

One notable presentation came from Tecumseh fire chief Scot Long, who reported that the emergency services budget saw the highest increase in spending of all departments last year due to an expansion of part-time staff. WLEN News spoke with City Manager Dan Swallow after the meeting, and he explained the importance of this session to both the city council and the city departments…

Swallow said that this year, the city hopes to implement projects from their capital improvement program, which was approved in 2022 and will run through 2028, and focuses on utilities and maintenance of city properties…

The final budget recommendation is expected to be presented at the City Council’s April 14th meeting, with a public hearing on the budget scheduled for May 5th and a final vote shortly thereafter.
