Sheriff: Toledo Man Died in Monroe County Jail

Monroe, MI – A 56-year-old Toledo man died while in-custody at the Monroe County Jail. Sheriff Troy Goodnough reports that on Wednesday, March 5th, at approximately 3:50 am, corrections officers found the inmate unresponsive in his cell.

The officers immediately began life saving measures performing CPR until members from the Monroe City Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance arrived on scene… who continued to administer CPR.

Sheriff Goodnough reports that after continued life saving measures, the 56-year-old man was unable to be revived.

The incident is under investigation by members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau. Out of respect for the family, the victim’s identity is being withheld at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office is saddened at the loss of life and extends their condolences to the individual’s family.
