Adrian, MI – The Adrian College Men’s ACHA Division 1 hockey team took down Purdue Northwest at the Arrington Ice Arena on Friday night, advancing to the Great Lakes 6 Championship tonight at the Arrington Ice Arena.
The No. 1 Seed Bulldogs hosted No. 4 Seed Purdue Northwest in the semifinal round of the GL6 Playoff Tournament, after previously beating the Pride twice earlier in the season. Adrian dominated the full 60 minutes on Thursday, blanking Purdue Northwest and earning a shot to play for a Conference Championship on home ice on Friday night.
Hunter Allen opened the scoring for Adrian in the first period off a strong solo effort, driving to the net and converting on the backhand for an unassisted goal. In the middle frame, defenseman Ethan McLaughlin converted on the power play on a seeing-eye wrist shot, followed by Matteo Turrin, who buried one even strength to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead after two periods.
The defending National Champions continued to pressure the Pride, carrying most of the play in the offensive zone and firing 22 shots on goal in the final stanza. Dylan Gajewski and Sebastian Smith added goals in the third as the Bulldogs out-shot the Pride 52-21 in the game. Noah Decottignies continued his stellar season as he made 21 saves in his seventh shutout win of the year in goal.
After a semifinal win over Grand Valley State, 4-3, Calvin University also advances to the title game. The Bulldogs and Knights will play for the first-ever GL6 Championship tonight at Adrian College. Friday’s game was broadcast on 103.9fm WLEN with Ian Wendt.
