
Murldean Apollonia Hurlbut, age 94, of Adrian, MI, died February 22, 2025, blessed by the Grace of her Savior and with her family by her side.
Murldean was born on October 22, 1930, in Adrian, MI, the daughter of Jesse E. and Elsie L. (Leffelhart) Britten. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church, Adrian.
At age 16, while in high school, Murldean worked as an Adrian Telephone Operator. She graduated from Adrian High School with the class of 1949; where she was involved with the band and the Girls Athletic Association.
On July 2, 1949, she married Keith Lee Hurlbut, and they celebrated 75 wonderful years together this past summer. Murldean and Keith were blessed with four children. She enjoyed traveling with Keith on business trips, going out dancing (especially the Jitterbug) and loved downhill skiing with the family.
She faithfully attended and was an active member of St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church her whole life. In her Lord’s grace, Murldean sang in the church choir, was secretary of Alter Guild, a member of the Ladies Society, and taught Sunday school. She coached the church’s first girls’ basketball team, coordinated the church alter flowers for many years, was a member of bible class and the Sewing Bee. Murldean enjoyed driving the church ladies to the former South Lyons Lutheran Home where they visited shut ins. When she was younger, Murldean found time to take a lead role in PTA when her children were in school.
In addition to her husband, Keith, Murldean will be missed by their children, Britt (Diane) Hurlbut of Adrian, Margo Hurlbut of Stanford, MI, and Todd Hurlbut and Tamara Wall both of Adrian; five grandchildren, Heather (Albert) Perez, Jacob (Nicole) Hurlbut, Vaughn (Cameron) Lakatos, Apollonia (Matthew) Cox and Christopher (Aitanna) Wall Jr.; thirteen great grandchildren, Vincent, Juliana, Holden, Ava, Pierce, Beckett Keith, Bentley, Charlee, Zephyr, Xander, Eden Grace, Rhema and Zoé. She loved her two sisters-in-law Mary Ann and Marilyn Britten and their families, her cousins, as well as her church family.
Murldean was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gordon E. Britten and Darwood J. Britten.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Adrian, with Pastor Brian Keller officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins. Burial will be private.
