Helen Sproessig – Onsted

Helen Sproessig, of Onsted, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 83 on Thursday, February 13, 2025. She was born Helen Bernice Post on January 27, 1942, to the late Bernard and Helen (Doersam) Post and grew up in Hudson, graduating in 1959. Helen was passionate about being a mother, and later a grandmother, and she loved helping her family whenever she was needed. She also loved her church, feeding the stray animals who needed food or water, and watching her beloved birds at the feeder. She was a devout Catholic and attended mass regularly at St. Joseph’s Shrine in Brooklyn, Michigan. Helen will always be remembered for the smile she had for whoever she interacted with and for helping others whenever she could.

She is survived by her four children, Mark Welch of Royal Oak, David Welch of Onsted, Chris Welch (Vicky Bledsoe) of Austin, TX, Tom Welch of Hudson, and three grandchildren, Tibbi (Ethan) Nielson, Olivia Welch and Nikolas Welch. She is also survived by siblings Linda Richmond, George (Cheryl) Post, Larry (Mary) Post, and Jeanette Melton.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dorothy, James, Pauline, Chuck, Evelyn, Robert and Therese.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Father Todd Koenigsknecht officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be held from 3-7 P.M. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Brown- Van Hemert funeral home in Hudson and on Thursday from 10-11:00 A. M. at the church.
