
Robert Gayle Sloop, age 73, of Onsted, MI, passed away at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital Warren Campus, on January 29, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1951, in Wabash, IN, the son of the late Arthur G. and JoAnn (Bockover) Sloop. Robert graduated with an Associates Degree and served his country honorably as a Marine. On July 14, 2001, he was joined in marriage with Cynthia Quinn Wainowski, and she survives.
Robert worked as a mortgage consultant in the banking industry. He was a member of Newsong Community Church in Tecumseh, MI and he also belonged to the Masons and the local Kiwanis. He loved woodworking, riding his motorcycle, traveling and experiencing new places. Robert especially enjoyed fishing. He also valued spending time with his family, and he loved to go out and eat.
In addition to his wife, Cindy, Robert is survived by his three children, Joseph, James and Amber Sloop; two step-daughters, Heather Boekema and Erin Lattuca; his sister, Penny Clem; four grandchildren, Andrew, Jared, Jacob, and Jenna Sloop; two step-grandchildren, Felix Farnum and Ryker Lattuca; and two great-grandchildren, Henry Johnson and Rodney Sloop.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Gertrude Sloop, and his two sisters, Connie Grove and Desire Floyd.
At Robert’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Robert, officiated by Pastor Tom Hawkins, will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Durkee-Seager American Legion Post 550 in Onsted MI. It will include Military Honors and a dinner to follow. In lieu of flowers the family would ask that contributions in Robert’s honor be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Dementia Society of America, or to any veteran’s organization.
