Matthew Gregory Sebring was born January 11, 1978, in Ypsilanti and passed away at home under Hospice of Lenawee care at the age of 47 with his family close by after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Matt attended Tecumseh Public Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade, and graduated with the Class of 1996. After graduating, Matt then attended Grand Rapids Community College. He enjoyed playing baseball in high school and the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Livonia Adray League and then for Grand Rapids Community College as a side arm pitcher where the “Raiders” went on to win the Junior College World Series. Matt also played on several slow pitch softball teams in the area and was given the nickname “Stork” by his friends because of his 6’9” height.

Due to his height and talent at the age of 15, Matt received a letter in August of 1994 from the Cincinnati Reds inviting him to attend a workout camp held in the Detroit area. He was one of only 15 players in Michigan to be selected.

Over the years, Matt was employed at several different locations including with Mitchell Landscaping in Tecumseh and United States Steel located near Detroit for 12 years until the foundry closed. He also worked with Pollard Banknotes in Ypsilanti as a printing press operator and with Creek Plastic in Tecumseh making irrigation drainage tiling. Matt’s last employment was working metal fabrication with Adrian Steel in Adrian.

The Family wishes to thank Oncologist Dr. Adam Forman for his immunotherapy treatment that greatly extended Matt’s life and the medical staff and aides at Hospice of Lenawee for their kind and compassionate care given to Matt.

Survivors of Matt include his parents Greg and Diane Sebring; his three sons, Caleb, Nolan, and Kaline; his sister, Elizabeth (John) Huff ; and two nephews, Evan and Myles Huff. He was preceded in death by all of his grandparents, Mahlon and Clara Sebring and Peter and Dorothy Gebarowski.
