Margaret L. Vallad (Lewis), 100, left us peacefully on February 2, 2025, at the McGuire Unit at Hillsdale Hospital. Born November 26, 1924, in Tipton, Michigan, Margaret lived a life full of love, compassion, and service to others. Margaret was the cherished daughter of William and Ora (Johnson) Lewis. She was the last surviving member of a large family, preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Len “Mike” Vallad, her son Wesley Hawkins, son-in-law Gilbert Foltz, and siblings. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting them.
She is survived by two daughters, Caroline Foltz of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Barbara (“Shorty”) Grubbs of North Adams. Margaret took immense pride in her four grandchildren: Kevin Grubbs, Karla (Joe) Davis, Michelle Lemon (Jeremy Snyder), and Julia (Wade) Marsh. Her legacy continues through her eight great-grandchildren—Aaron, Amber, Joey, Wesley, Alyssa, Megan, Duncan, and Christian—and eleven great-great-grandchildren—Brooklynn, Avery, Evelynn, Jayce, Micah, Paxton, Victor, Wrenley, Sunton, Jordan, and Bella. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her nephew whom she raised, Danny (Darlene) Lewis and their children, Dawn, DJ, and Deanna.
Margaret and Mike were united in marriage on October 2, 1959, in Michigan Center, Michigan. Together, they created a home filled with laughter and warmth, embarking on countless weekend camping adventures under the starry skies of northern Michigan.
Professionally, Margaret dedicated 18 years of her life to Tecumseh Products and 15 years to M&S Manufacturing before retiring in 1987.
Spiritual she worshiped at the Wheatland Congregational church in Wheatland Twp.
In her leisure time, Margaret found joy in quilting and reading, often channeling her creativity into beautiful quilts that will be cherished by her family for generations to come. She was a passionate supporter of her grandchildren, attending their sporting events and cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm. Margaret’s heart was truly exceptional; she opened her home to countless foster children throughout the years, providing them with the love, care, and stability they so desperately needed. Margaret had a spirited love for life, particularly when it came to the thrill of the casino. She embraced the excitement of the games, and her luck shone brightly when she once hit the jackpot, winning an impressive $25,000 on the slots—a moment that brought her such joy.
