Brent was born on March 2, 1969, in Saginaw, MI, the middle child of Thomas and Marcie (Rodriguez) Kostanko. He attended Cass City High School and graduated with the Class of 1987. After graduation, Brent went on to join the United States Navy where he served from 1987 to 1989.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, Brent went on to earn his associates degree at Delta College in Saginaw; and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Siena Heights University. Brent found his true calling when he joined the Ann Arbor Fire Department in August of 1998. He demonstrated bravery, commitment and the ability to stay levelheaded while keeping others safe during difficult times. Due to health reasons, Brent retired in December 2022 from his role of Captain. He had many friends that he considered family from his time as a fire fighter.
Brent drew strength from his family, and they all embraced the strong bond that they shared. On February 3, 1996, he married Carrie A. Tuckey in Cass City, MI; and they were just a few days short of celebrating their 29th anniversary. They have been blessed with 4 children and a lifetime of adventures including their annual camping trip to the Cass River. He was a devoted family man and a loving “Pops” to his grandchildren.
Brent was known for his sense of humor and always having a joke to share. His creative side would show up in his interest of technology, where he was a proud owner of a robotic lawn mower and several household devices. He was strong in his faith and practiced forgiveness and patience with others. Every day Brent chose to live his life being a positive force in the world and what an impact he had on those around him.
In addition to his wife, Carrie, Brent is survived by their children, Madison (Guadalupé) Deanda, Thomas (Jasmin) Kostanko, Isabella (Mason) Caskey, Olivia (Shaun Thompson) Kostanko; grandchildren, Tony, Sofia, Josie, Emma, Iris and Amora; brothers, Del (Jane) Kostanko and Travis (Jessica) Kostanko; In-laws, Jim and Shirley Tuckey; brother-in-law, Jamie Tuckey; and nieces and nephews, Sam, Lily, Mayah and Kayla Kostanko. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Visitation will take place on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Community Church in Adrian, with Pastor Scott Winstead officiating; family will be receiving guests from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Burial will follow at East Rome Cemetery.
Family is encouraging those attending to wear bright colored clothing in celebrating Brent’s life.
