Tecumseh, MI – The Tecumseh City Council voted to approve a contract change, and extension, for trash and recycling services through Stevens Disposal.

The change will usher in the use of trash and recycling carts for residents. Tecumseh Mayor Brian Radant talked to WLEN News about how this change came to be…

Trash service is rolled into the taxes Tecumseh residents pay to the city, so there is no additional payment to be made with the new contract. The contract between Tecumseh and Stevens Disposal will have a yearly increase of about 3 percent…the same at the current deal.

Mayor Radant told WLEN News that the trash carts being used by residents are currently costing the city about $10,000 per month. That will go away when the contract changes are implemented.

Radant says that when the new-look contract goes into effect, Tecumseh will have one day per week for collection, instead of the current system…

Mayor Radant told WLEN News that recycling is included in the contract, but residents can opt-out…but the cost will remain the same.

He said that trash customers with the City of Tecumseh will be receiving individual communication about the changes to the trash contract…including steps to take if residents want a 64-gallon cart or the 96-gallon size. Changes will be implemented April 1st.
