Steven C. Winch, age 74, of Morenci, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at the Hospice of Lenawee House surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 1, 1950, in Adrian, to Beverly (Miller) Winch.
A proud veteran, Steven was drafted into the United States Army on February 6, 1970, during the Vietnam War, and served until April 5, 1971. Upon returning to civilization, Steven began working at Evonik Chemical Plant in Sand Creek. He worked there for many years as a process operator and part time foreman before retiring.
On July 16, 1973, Steven married Patricia Zook in Morenci. Together they raised a family of four children and celebrated a loving partnership of over 51 years. Steven had a gift for connecting with people—he never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. Known for his humor, he delighted in sharing the same two jokes with everyone he met.
Steven found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures and the beauty of nature. He cherished his time at the cabin, where he delighted in bird watching, mushroom hunting, and occasionally deer hunting. Steven had a passion for collecting rocks and he made it a cherished routine to venture out into the fields to find rocks with Pat. His love for discovery extended to estate sales, where he was always on the lookout for a great deal to add to his collection of bargains. He also enjoyed spending time with loved ones and friends through activities like playing euchre and working on puzzles. A devoted fan of “The Young and the Restless,” Steven faithfully watched his favorite soap opera every afternoon with Pat from 12:30 to 1:30 pm without interruption.
He had a knack for tinkering in the barn and took pride in crafting special items for his family. Christmas was particularly meaningful to him; he made it magical every year, even as his children grew older. Steven also had a fondness for cheeseburgers and was known for making a delicious vegetable soup.
To cherish his memory, Steven leaves his loving wife, Pat; four children: Lisa (John) Cox, Mark Martin, Kelli (Dave McDorman) Neidemire, and Holly Coler; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; five siblings: Gordan (Karen) Winch, Roger (Theresa) Winch, Jeff (Charlette) Winch, Peggy (Dennis) Crochet, and Robin Coffman; his close friends, Orville Metcalf and Joe and Cheryl Braun; and his fur companion, Dolly. Steven was preceded in death by his aunt, Winifred Winch; niece, Amy Cozart; and his dog, Rusty.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Morenci, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
