
Maria Luisa Gonzalez, age 82, of Adrian, MI, passed away, January 14, 2025, at Hickman Promedica Hospital. She was born June 2, 1942, in Milan, MI, the daughter of Octavio & Reymunda (Torres) De Leon. On April 15, 1961, she married Lupe Gonzalez, he survives. Maria was a graduate of Adrian High School. She then earned a bachelors degree in social work from Siena Heights. Following graduation, she was elected as the first Hispanic County Commissioner in Lenawee County. During her time as a county commissioner, Maria applied for a fellowship with the Congressional Spanish Speaking Caucus in Washington DC. After earning her Master Degree in Public Administration, it led her to an internship with the City of San Antonio, TX. After completing her internship, Maria accepted employment with the City of Austin, TX. Following her employment with the City of Austin, she worked in Academia in San Antonio with Our Lady of the Lake, where she retired from. She is survived by her husband Lupe, one sister, Emelisa De Leon and her family; two brothers, Reynaldo (Vicki) De Leon and Lupe (Margarita) De Leon and their familes; the late Marina’s family along with numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Octavio & Reymunda De Leon; two brothers, Frank De Leon and Robert De Leon; one sister, Marina Valdez; and her faithful labrador companions, Jake, Zorro and Diego. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI, with Sr. Patricia Sieman presiding.
