Washington, D.C. – President Joe Biden has declared January 9th as a National Day of Mourning. It is the day that the official state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter will be held at the Washington National Cathedral.

As a result of that, the US Postal Service will not deliver mail, and postal facilities will be closed. There will be limited package delivery on that day. Regular postal services will resume on Friday.

Federal government offices will also be closed on Thursday. The last time a National Day of Mourning was held was in December 2018 following the death of former President George H.W. Bush.
