Michael Allen “Mike” Shaffer, age 55, of Morenci, died Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, following a battle with Lymphoma. He was born on August 12, 1969, in Toledo, the firstborn child of Larry and Cindy (Bunde) Shaffer.
A lifelong resident of Morenci, Mike was a 1988 graduate of Morenci High School, and later obtained an Associate Degree in Tool and Die from Northwest State Community College in Archbold. Mike married fellow Morenci alumni Kristy Kay Zuvers on October 14, 1995, at Seneca Community Church.
For the past 18 years, Mike was employed as a proud machinist for Rapid Machines in Pioneer, OH. He loved his job and possessed a strong work ethic, working up until the day of his last hospitalization. Never idle, Mike kept busy with various carpentry and woodworking projects and he was skilled with any labor done with his hands. An avid outdoorsman, he was a former member of the Morenci Sportsman Club. He loved the sports of hunting, shooting, fishing, and golfing, and he also enjoyed smoking meat for his family, never afraid to try a new recipe. He and Kristy also enjoyed years of weekend camping at various campgrounds in the tri-state area.
A devoted Christian, Mike worshipped as a member of Medina Federated Church. He is remembered for his servant heart, selflessly putting the welfare of others before the needs of his own. His humorous and witty personality exemplified his charm and his extensive knowledge of trivia will always be fondly remembered. His presence will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know and love him.
His loving wife of nearly 30 years, Kristy, survives. Also left to mourn his loss are two children, McKenna Shaffer (Dylan Leathers) of Odessa, TX, and Mason Shaffer of Morenci; his parents, Larry and Cindy Shaffer of Morenci; his sister, Stacy (Scott) Yatzek of Adrian; mother-in-law, Georgia Zuvers of Morenci; brother- and sister-in-law, Scott (Natalie) Zuvers of Morenci; and nieces and nephews, Sidny and Sedric Yatzek, and Josie, Emily, Tessa and Noah Zuvers.
