Monroe, MI – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office disclosed more details on the officer-involved shooting that took place over the weekend. Following notification of immediate family members, the MCSO is telling the public that the deceased individual is 47-year-old Brian Donald Miller, from Willis. The Sheriff’s Office says that the incident and result was not the outcome sought by the office, or the Deputy Sheriff who responded to the initial 911 call.
They went on to say, in part, “The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the men and women who serve and protect extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Miller. We know this is a difficult time and we offer our prayers for peace and comfort in the trying days ahead. We are also keeping our deputy involved in the incident in our thoughts and prayers.”
At the time of the shooting, MCSO says that Miller was wanted by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Larceny from a person, and resisting and obstructing.
The Deputy has been placed on administrative duty, as is standard procedure. The Sheriff’s Office says that they will continue to update the public as new information is made available.
Initial information released by the MCSO says that officers were called to locations in London Township, and the 6300 block of Bluebush Road in Exeter Township to investigate a “suspicious” man Saturday morning. The London Township call was just before 11 a.m., with the Exeter Township call coming in at 11:30 a.m.
Sheriff Troy Goodnough said that the suspect “immediately engaged and began physically assaulting,” a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff when they arrived. During the scuffle the deputy discharged his gun, killing Miller. The deputy was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident is currently under investigation by members of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office who were immediately contacted to conduct an independent review of the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone who may have witnessed this incident call Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070.
