Brenda Kay Russell, age 74, of Adrian, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Brenda was born on March 16, 1950, in Adrian, MI, the second of Leon and Doris (Kolle) Sledge’s four children. She graduated from Madison High School with the Class of 1968 and went on to attend Siena Heights University.
Brenda’s positive attitude and strong work ethic were valuable skills she used daily in working with the public. For over 15 years, Brenda worked for the Dollar General franchise, in several locations throughout Lenawee County. She most recently worked as the assistant manager of the north main location in Adrian.
Family was the center of Brenda’s world, and she loved creating memories and providing wonderful home cooked meals for every occasion. Brenda enjoyed doing yard work, tending to her landscape and reading. She looked forward to football season where she would watch and cheer on the Michigan State Spartans and Kansas City Chiefs.
Brenda is survived by her children, David (Jennifer) Poore and Jennifer (Claude) Randall; grandchildren, Kayla (James) Dixon and Cole (Emma) Gatt; great-grandchildren, Waylon, Kayden, Reilly and two more on the way; siblings, Kenneth (Penny) Sledge and Shirley (Bob) Sutphin; the father of her children and best friend, Travis; many nieces and nephews; great friends; and her precious cat, Jethro. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Patricia, in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM with Minister Kenneth Sledge III officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park.
