
Monroe County, MI – An officer-involved shooting occurred in Exeter Township, Monroe County on Saturday, leaving one person deceased. On Saturday, December 28th, at 10:56 am, a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff was dispatched to the 9000 block of Hoffman Road in London Township in regards to a suspicious subject.
While the deputy was investigating that incident, a second call was received in the 6300 block of Bluebush Road in Exeter Township. The second call, received at 11:30 am, was reporting a suspicious subject matching the description of the subject from the Hoffman Road incident.
The Deputy Sheriff responded to the Bluebush Road address and located the subject, who immediately engaged and physically assaulted the Deputy Sheriff. During the assault, the Deputy Sheriff discharged his service firearm, striking the suspect.
The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Deputy Sheriff involved in the incident was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries suffered as a result of the assault by the suspect.
The incident is currently under investigation by members of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office who were immediately contacted to conduct an independent review of the incident. An updated press release will be released when additional details are available for the public.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of potential witnesses to this incident who may have left the scene as backup officers arrived. The Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone who may have witnessed this incident call Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070.
