
David Michael Bird, age 78, of rural Cement City, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Tecumseh on May 26, 1946, to the late Walter Jr. and Margaret (Dickerson) Bird. He attended and graduated from Tecumseh High School, and went on to further his education, attaining a Bachelor Degree. David served his country in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
David worked as a tooling engineer, retiring from Textron in 2012. He was a great father and all-around good guy. He loved family gatherings and helping people in any way he could. There was almost nothing David couldn’t do. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would research the subject until he knew how to do it. In his free time, he loved family gatherings, golfing, and wood carving.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue; son, Charles (Kristin) Marshall; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; five living sisters; brother-in-law, Roger Burgess; and sister-in-law, Karen Lockwood. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tom Barron; brother-in-law, Keith Lockwood; and sister-in-law, Gail Burgess.
Cremation will take place and there will be no services at this time. Inurnment of remains will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.
