Elvie Atkinson, age 81, of Adrian, MI, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024. She was born on August 15, 1943 in Royalton, KY, the daughter of the late Kelly and Kathryn (Fletcher) Cole. She was joined in marriage to William Franklin Atkinson on October 1, 1959, in Tecumseh, MI, and they enjoyed sixty-three years together before his passing on August 20, 2022.

Elvie served as a nursing assistant for fifteen years at the Evangelical Home in Saline MI. She was a member of the Tecumseh Church of God. Elvie loved camping and going for car rides. She always looked forward to taking care of her grandkids, and she never passed up an opportunity to go shopping.

Elvie is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Ruben) Lozano, of Adrian, MI, Alvia (Michael) Wotring, of Adrian, MI, and Kathy (Richard) Denniss, of Tecumseh, MI; two siblings, Phyllis Mullins, of Salyersville, KY, and Burt Smith, of Jackson, MI, ten grandchildren, Derek (Kim) Atkinson, of Onsted, MI, Michael Wotring Jr., and Nicholas Wotring, both of Adrian, MI, Justine Loughran-Davidson, of Florida, Franklin (Alissa) Wotring, of Raisin Township, MI, Daniel Crawford, of Tecumseh, MI, Florian (Nancy) Noel, of Killeen, TX, Billy Dickerson, of Adrian, MI, Jessica Poley, of Clinton, MI, and Stephanie Poley, of Adrian, MI; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Atkinson, of Wurtland, KY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, Elvie was preceded in death by her daughter, Lora Atkinson; her son, William “Billy”; granddaughter, Cheyanne Denniss; and two brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services for Elvie will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes, with David Poley officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh, MI. Memorial contributions in honor of Elvie may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Lenawee.
