Margaret Helen “Peggy” Nieman

Margaret Helen “Peggy” Nieman, age 74, formerly of Blissfield, died Sunday afternoon, December 1, 2024, at Lynwood Manor in Adrian, surrounded by her loving family while under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born October 24, 1950, in Adrian, the daughter of Robert William and Mary Margaret (Porter) Saxton.

Peggy married Thomas R. Nieman on November 2, 1968, in Blissfield. Together they raised three children and shared 53 wonderful years together before his passing on February 4, 2021. Peggy earned an Associate Degree in business from Davis Business College, and she dedicated over 30 years serving as treasurer for the Village of Blissfield. She also served her community as a Den Mother for the Blissfield Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and she proudly earned a Wood Badge. Peggy and Tom hosted several foreign exchange students over the years, and Peggy served as a Youth For Understanding (YFU) regional director. She enjoyed bird watching, sewing, crafting and craft shows, and camping—especially in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A devout Christian, Peggy was a longtime member of the Blissfield Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Matthew (Kori) Nieman of Manitou Beach and Jay (Kerry) Nieman of Hudson; a daughter, Molly Nieman of Adrian; brother, Dave (JoAnn) Saxton of Blissfield; sister, Paula Saxton of Blissfield; five grandchildren, Noah (Erin), Logan (Kenzie), Trey, Makayla, and Amelia; and two great-grandchildren, Harper and Jameson.

The family will receive friends for visitation at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until the service begins at 6:00 p.m. Private burial will take place in Greens Lakeside Cemetery in Manitou Beach.
