Edward Allen Courington (Ed), 72, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Ed was born in Adrian to Alabama natives Olen and Lois (Pope) Courington on Friday, February 15, 1952. He attended Adrian Schools and began his career with Kroger when he was just 16 years old. Ed retired from Kroger in 2017 after 48 years.

One of Ed’s proudest accomplishments was becoming a Master Gardener through Michigan State University. He shared his expertise by volunteering at Hidden Lake Gardens and by growing an extensive flower, fruit and vegetable garden for many years.

Ed had the travel bug, and he often went on trips with friends or solo across the country. On one such cross-country excursion, Ed stopped to visit his cousin, Bill Mays, in Sacramento, California. There he met and fell in love with Vicki D Rowe. After his return to Michigan, he invited Vicki and her young son, Jack, to move back here to his home. Vicki and Ed were married later that year on December 22, 1978, in the home of Ed’s parents, and they celebrated their 45th anniversary last December.

One family tradition that Ed especially loved was camping up North at Harrisville State Park. He and Vicki, along with their children and grandchildren, spent many summer vacations there hiking, biking, swimming and keeping the fire going all day long. Other members of his extended family joined in as well.

Left to mourn are wife Vicki D. (Rowe) Courington, sons Jack (Carrie) and Rheubin Courington and daughter Kimberly Courington, brothers Larry (Mary Ann) and Kink (Robbin) Courington and sister, Julie (Milo) Warren. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Steven J Courington, and his son, Edward Allen Courington the II.

Services for Edward will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian, Michigan. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 and again on December 3, 2024, just prior to the funeral service from 10-11 am. Donations may be made to Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in lieu of flowers to help with the cost of funeral expenses.
