Sabine Monika Zuzek, age 79, of Adrian, Michigan, died Monday morning, November 18, 2024, at Adrian Bay Rehab and Nursing Center under the care of Hospice of Lenawee.
Sabine was born on December 1, 1944, in Seilershof, Germany, the only daughter of Klaus and Erna Josy. Sabine and her mother escaped East Germany and moved to the United States when she was a child. She became a U.S. citizen at the age of fourteen and went on to graduate from Wilkinsburg High School in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania.
After graduation Sabine went on to nursing school. It was during this time that Sabine’s girlfriends set her up on a blind date and introduced her to Ludwig “Luddy” Zuzek, who was attending Pitt University. Luddy made quite an impression on Sabine and after a few years of dating they were united in marriage on December 3, 1966, in Pittsburgh, PA. They relocated to Michigan for Luddy’s job, and this was where their son, Eric, was born. They were fortunate to share over 56 years together before Luddy’s death on September 19, 2023.
Sabine worked as an x-ray technologist at Bixby Hospital for over 20 years. She continued her training, earning several certifications and being a part of the evolution in mammography screenings. Sabine and Ludwig belonged to Moose Lodge #1034 for over 50 years. She appreciated her German ancestry and made many batches of German pancakes for Luddy and visiting family. She collected castles, lighthouses and cookbooks. Sabine enjoyed movies and music, especially the Twilight films and classic oldies. The Hallmark Channel remained on all through the holiday season. Sabine loved animals and believed no dog was too big to be a lap dog, especially her Scottish terriers. She enjoyed spending time with her friend Kay and watching the horses out at her farm and trying her luck on scratch off lottery tickets.
She is survived by her son, Eric (Emilie) Zuzek of Grand Rapids, MI; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Kay Pringle of Adrian. Sabine was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Erna and Wilhelm Buettner; and husband, Ludwig.
Graveside services will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh.
