Clinton, MI – The Clinton Community Schools Board of Education has decided to not pursue further disciplinary action against teacher and coach Casey Randolph, after an investigation determined that the coach may have made racist and homophobic remarks against students.

Clinton administrators had recently concluded an independent investigation through the Lenawee Intermediate School District after receiving 21 allegations of misconduct against Randolph, who coaches the Clinton High School football and wrestling teams.

The investigation found that Coach Randolph had likely used a homophobic slur to refer to a student, made disparaging racial remarks against a competing football team, and allowed a student on the wrestling team to practice despite having just had COVID-19, while accusations of physical abuse and intimidation could not be verified.

At Monday night’s board meeting, several people spoke in support of the coach during the public comment period, including current and former students, staff, and members of the community, many of whom were wearing shirts that read, ‘I Stand With Coach Randolph.’

Despite the outpouring of support, a few in attendance were openly critical of Coach Randolph and the Board’s investigative process, with one Clinton alum alleging that Randolph assaulted him during a football game.

Board President Kelly Schmidt read a statement responding to the complaints and investigation concerning Coach Randolph: “The Board values the feedback and conversation from the community. After reviewing the thorough investigation conducted by an LISD attorney, and in consultation with our attorneys at Thrun Law Firm, we are satisfied that the issues have been appropriately investigated and, where needed, addressed. While we cannot discuss specifics, it is important to note that some public statements about this matter do not align with the investigation’s findings. At this time, the Board considers this matter resolved and closed.”
