Mac Douglas Byington, age 70, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 1, 2024. He was born on May 29, 1954, in Pennington Gap, Virginia to the late Burley Byington and Texie “Jean” Balden. On September 5, 1981, Mac married the love of his life, Deborah Vargas, in Ypsilanti. They raised a family of three children and celebrated over 43 wonderful years together.
For 18 years, Mac proudly worked for Washtenaw County in facilities management. When he wasn’t working, Mac could be found at home making sure both his and Debbie’s cars were always clean. He brought the same attention to his yard as he always kept it immaculate. Mac also enjoyed spending time tinkering on the cars, cheering on the Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines, and listening to the Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, and George Strait. Mac was known for being witty, sarcastic, and having a great sense of humor. Above all else, family was most important to him. He loved his children and his grandbabies, Ahna and Emily, with all his heart.
To cherish his memory, Mac leaves his loving wife, Debbie; three children, Alex Byington, Brent Byington, and Allisa (AJ) Doty; five grandchildren, Ahna, Emily, Janet, Dominic, and Zack; two brothers, Roger Byington and Dennis (Pam) Byington; and two sisters, Rose Golden and Alphina (Mark) Kelly. In addition to his parents, Mac is preceded in death by a brother, Mark Balden; Sister, Margaret Edwards; sister-in-law, Lynn Byington; brother-in-law/best friend, James “Steve” Golden; and beloved dog, Roxy “Rocky.”
