Lois “Eleanor” Eisenmann, age 88, formerly of Petersburg, MI died peacefully in her sleep Friday, November 1, 2024, at Blissfield Place.
Eleanor was born on August 1, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, to Oscar and Grace (Appling) McPherson. Eleanor held the position of the only daughter with three brothers to tease and love her. She graduated from Whitmer High School in 1954; and went on to earn her associates degree from Spring Arbor Junior College. Eleanor took her love of learning and strong motivation to keep moving forward as she completed her bachelor’s degree from Greenville College in Greenville, IL and a master’s in education from the University of Toledo.
On December 27, 1958, Eleanor married Stanley “Dale” Eisenmann in Toledo, Ohio and during their lifetime were blessed with two daughters and much love and laughter. The family took many exciting camping trips throughout Michigan and this tradition continued when their daughters were grown and had their own families. For many winters, Eleanor and Dale would take their camper down to Florida and enjoy the warmer climate. Dale passed away on December 15, 2011, just shy of their 53rd wedding anniversary.
Eleanor started her teaching career in the Bedford School system at the elementary level where she taught for six years before taking a break to raise their daughters. When Eleanor returned to teaching it was at Summerfield Schools where she influenced the lives of many students during her 32 years as a “Bulldog” educator. Eleanor was a very active member of the Deerfield Free Methodist Church for years and was involved in the choir, teaching Sunday school and even held the role of church treasurer for several years.
Eleanor will be missed by her daughters, Deborah Eisenmann and Cheryl Abston; granddaughter, Jade (James) Ruckle; and great-granddaughter, Freya Ruckle. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; and her three brothers, David Lee, Oscar Raymond, Jr., and Norman B. McPherson.
Visitation for Eleanor will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel, Blissfield. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Blissfield Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Frantz and Pastor Rick Jewett officiating; with visitation one hour prior to the start of the service.
