Marilyn Jane Hassenzahl, age 80 of Palmyra, MI, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 26, 2024. Marilyn was born June 24, 1944, to Durwood and Margaret (Hale) Blanchard. She graduated in 1961 form East Jackson high School in Jackson, MI. In 1963 she married Harry Hassenzahl. She later earned her BA in early childhood development from Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI. She thought preschool for many years. She moved to Adrian, MI, and began working at the Walmart and from there she retired. Marilyn was a two time cancer survivor so in return she spent many years participating in the relay for Life. That was something she was very proud of. She loved to read so much she had a book to read in every room and one in her purse. But her absolute favorite thing was spending time with the loves of her life her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn was survived by her son Lloyd Hassenzahl of Palmyra, MI, daughter, Corrina (Bob) Smith of Hudson MI, and daughter by choice Jeannie Deck of Onsted, MI. Three grandchildren, TrayLynne (John) Nealy of Waldron, MI, Emma Lue Smith of Hudson, MI and Austin Smith of Hudson, MI; four great-grandchildren Mea, John John, Akari Ruth and Jamasyn Nealy of Waldron, MI. She was preceded in death by brother Gerald Blanchard, sister Judy Kyser both of Jackson, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents Durwood and Margaret (Hale) Blanchard sister Carol Miller sister in law Mary Lou Blanchard two brothers in law Chuck Kyser and Richard (Dick) Miller her infant son Stephen Hassenzahl and loving and very missed daughter Amy Jo Hassenzahl. Per request cremation has already taken place thanks to the caring staff at the Purse Funeral Home in Adrian, MI. A celebration of life for Marilyn will take place at a further date.
