
Joan L. Lapham, age 91, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024. Joan was born July 27, 1933, at College Hospital in Gross Pointe, Michigan, to Carl and Theta (Parks) Lounsbury. Joan was raised by her grandmother, Mable Miller, who was born in Ontario, Canada. She attended Western High School on the West side of Detroit. Joan married Wendell “Winnie” Lapham on July 17, 1962, in Taylor, MI and he precedes her in death.
Joan was strong in her faith and an active member of St. Joseph Shrine Church since 1970. She was also a member of the Brooklyn Moose Lodge and past member of the Brooklyn Eagles. Joan loved her life as a homemaker. She had a “green thumb” and took pride in planting both flower and vegetable gardens, then canning her harvest. Joan’s hobbies included square dancing, sewing, crocheting and playing golf. Joan had an adventurous side as well, where she enjoyed roller skating, snowmobiling, ice skating, boating, and water skiing. She and Winnie enjoyed traveling and outings with many friends. Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Left to cherish the memory of Joan are her children: Deborah (Lee) Brower, Cynthia (Brian) Czubko, Richard (Laurie) Lapham, and Jeanette (Randy) Schiel. Her grandchildren: Steve (Lindsay) Helinski, Lindsay (Bill) Ashley, Joshua (Lindsey) Schiel, Luke (Lindsay) Lapham, Jason (Amber) Schiel, Heather (James) Fuelling, Seth (Georgina) Lapham, Joseph (Kortney) Schiel, and Emily (Caleb) Browning and 15 great grandchildren. Besides her husband Winnie, Joan is preceded in death by brother, Richard Lounsbury; sister, Judy Erickison, and her parents.
Visitation for Joan will be on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., at the St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Funeral mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Zach Mabee officiating. Burial will be in St. Joesph Shrine Cemetery.
