Monroe, MI – An incident which occurred at the Monroe County Intermediate School District at 1101 South Raisinville Road in Monroe Township late last week, is under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
While assigned to the ISD, Sergeant Jason Miller was alerted by staff about a male subject that was outside of the building acting erratically. Sergeant Miller was able to locate the subject, who was identified as an employee of the ISD, in a rear parking lot and engaged in conversation.
Sergeant Miller was led to believe that the subject was armed and alerted Monroe County Central Dispatch to the situation. The suspect then began to walk off school grounds before entering an unlocked residence in the 1100 block of South Raisinville Road that was occupied by two females and a male.
The subject barricaded himself in a bedroom with one of the female residents. Deputies surrounded the residence and forced entry into the bedroom, ultimately rescuing the hostage and taking the suspect into custody.
The offender’s identity is being withheld pending formal charges. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the Michigan State Police, Ida Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance.
A female victim was transported to ProMedica Monroe Regional with minor injuries. The case remains under investigation by the Monroe County Detective Bureau; anyone with information is asked to contact Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
