It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garrett (Garry) Grant Neice. He died on October 9, 2024 at the age of 80 from pneumonia. His passing came suddenly and while at his home of 51 years, as he would have wished.
Garry was born on January 10, 1944 to George Gordon Neice and Dorothy Deyo Neice in Framingham, Massachusetts. Garry graduated from Middletown (now Middletown North) High School in New Jersey in 1962 and he went on to study Geology at the College of William and Mary.
It was his dream to graduate from college, but he ran short of money after a few years and moved back to New Jersey where he landed a job at Stauffer Chemicals. In 1964, while in New Jersey, he married Rae Frances Neice (Fetterolf) and soon moved with her to Adrian after Stauffer opened a facility (now Wacker) in the area.
Garry worked for Stauffer/Wacker for 35 years, retiring on his 35-year work anniversary in February of 1999. He was proud of the work he did at Wacker, rising to the position of Production Manager for silicone polymers and he appreciated the intelligence and work ethic of many of his beloved colleagues there.
While in Adrian, Garry and Rae had two children, Ryan and Randy. Garry was an amazing father who loved his kids with every ounce of his soul and showed it by always making them a priority. He had a penchant for showing up out of the woods to cheer Ryan on at cross country meets and for yelling at Randy to “just hit the ball” during baseball games. He came to every sporting event and celebrated every report card with gusto. He always encouraged his kids to do their best and “just be pleasant”.
In 1999, Garry retired and spent his time landscaping lawns, collecting stamps, taking care of his feral cat colony, and being a doting grandfather to Naomi, Gabe, Caroline, and Violet. He also spoke to his brother, Don, daily.
Garry was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, and Father, George. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rae; his brother, Don and his wife Susan; his children Ryan and Randy; and his four grandchildren.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 2 to 5pm at Wagley Funeral Home, 1501 W. Maumee Street in Adrian. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lenawee Humane Society, as Garry was a lifelong lover of animals.
