Wanda Mae (Spencley) Van Etten, age 86, of Adrian, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at the Toledo Hospital. She was born September 2, 1938, in Cadmus to William and Lola (Fauver) Spencley. On June 16, 1956, she married Dan Oliver Van Etten in Cadmus. They raised a family of six children and celebrated over 65 wonderful years together before his passing on June 29, 2021.
Wanda was a member of the Sand Creek Community Church, the Ladies Aid Society, and the Red Hat Society. She played the piano at Sand Creek Community Church and then Canandaigua Church for the past few years. In her free time, Wanda loved tending to her flower garden; competitively playing bingo, monopoly, cards, and dominoes; and watching the Women’s Adrian College Ice Hockey. She was known for baking cookies for her grandchildren and for her grilled cheese sandwiches. Most importantly, Wanda enjoyed her time with her children and grandchildren. She made quilts for all six children, every grandchild, and every great grandchild.
To cherish her memory, Wanda leaves her children: Dan (Lissa) Van Etten of Adrian, DeWayne (Wendy) Van Etten of Adrian, Doug (Carla) Van Etten of Adrian, Debra (Todd) Zakrajsek of Durham, NC, Denise (Gary) Clavette of Okemos, and Darlene (Glen) McMunn of Adrian; 14 grandchildren: Luke (Karen), Justin (Ashley), Bethany, Sarah, Jessica (Richard), Brandon (Megan), Amber (Josh), Kate (Brandon), Emma (Ryan), Kathryn, MaryHelen (Liam), Thomas, Erica (Andrew), and Karli (George); and 22 great grandchildren: Everett, Daniel, Jaiden, Kylie, Isla, Lola, Jude, Alden, Kaileb, Jordyn, Matthew, Preston, Lorelei, Theodore, Oliver, Olivia, Madelynn, Delaney, Everleigh, Bennett, Dawson, and Makenzie. In addition to her husband and parents, Wanda was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannette Robinson.
Visitation for Wanda will be on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian, with Rev. William Van Valkenburg officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Center Cemetery.
