Monroe County, MI – A 19-year-old and infant from Jackson were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Monroe County Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Troy Goodnough reports that the crash occurred on South Custer Road in Raisinville Township at around 8:30am.

Preliminary investigation reveals 19-year-old Journee Padgett, accompanied by a rear-seat infant passenger, was operating a white 2015 Chevrolet Malibu on South Custer Road. While in motion, and for an unknown reason, Padgett crossed the centerline… striking a 2021 Western Star tractor, with tandem trailers, head-on. The tractor was operated by a 58-year-old Adrian resident.

Both adults were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash… the infant passenger was properly secured in a rear-facing car seat. Airbags deployed in the Chevrolet when the crash occurred.

Alcohol and speed are not factors in the crash. The 19-year-old was pronounced deceased on scene from injuries suffered in the crash. The infant was transported to ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The Adrian man was not injured, and was released from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
