Evelyn Louise Simpson, age 89, of Hudson, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson. Born on March 30, 1935, to Clifford and LouLa (Ireland) Deck, Evelyn lived her life in Hudson with a deep love for her family and community. On July 8, 1957, she married Ira Simpson in Angola, Indiana, and they shared many wonderful years together before his passing.
Evelyn was a familiar face at Bob’s Markets House, where she worked for many years in the bakery, brightening the days of customers with her warmth and care. She found joy in simple pleasures—whether reading any book she could get her hands on, listening to the classic sounds of George Jones, or traveling with her children and loved ones. Evelyn especially cherished trips up north, exploring Michigan and Tennessee, where she created lasting memories with her family.
Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Evelyn also treasured her weekly coffee meetings with her close-knit group of girlfriends, a tradition that brought her much happiness.
Evelyn’s legacy is carried on by her children: Vicki (Joseph) Simpson, Cindy (David) Jones, Sandy Wilson, Jackie (Robert) Bodette, and Cathy (Gary) Walkinhood; along with her 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ira, her parents, her son Kevin Deck, her son-in-law Scott Ellsworth, stepsons Mike and Bruce Simpson, and her siblings.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Brown-VanHemert Funeral Home in Hudson from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service officiated by Pastor Justin Myers at noon.
