Leon Arthur Lewis, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the Adrian ProMedica Hickman Hospital with his family by his side. He was born February 18, 1928, in Tecumseh, MI to Arthur and Tressie (Pooley) Lewis. He was married to Alice Mary Osburn on September 5, 1953, and they shared over 67 years together before her passing on April 8, 2021.
Leon was employed as a custodian at Tecumseh Public Schools. Earlier in his life, he farmed and raised chickens. He was known as the “egg man” on his delivery routes in Tecumseh and Adrian. Leon was a faithful member of the Holloway Presbyterian Church. He was also a proud army veteran, having served in Korea.
Leon leaves behind his son, Daniel Lewis of Britton, MI; his daughters, Kathryn (Nathan) Smith of Tecumseh, MI and Beth Lewis of Adrian, MI; his daughter-in-law, Paula Lewis, of Adrian, MI; three grandsons, Brad (Danielle) Lewis of Fort Wayne, IN, Adam (Courtney Elliott) Smith of Nashville, TN, and Jason (Katie) Smith of Grand Rapids, MI; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Lewis, and his sister, Ruth Lewis.
Visitation for Leon will be from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services conducted by Pastor Richard Mortimer will follow. Burial will take place at the Raisin Presbyterian Cemetery in Holloway, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Lenawee County Department on Aging.
