
Vernon D. Crandall, age 91 years, of Hudson and Pittsford area passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Grace Haven Assisted Living in St. Johns. He was born on December 20, 1932, in Hillsdale, the son of Vernie Demur and Hazel May (Elliott) Crandall. Vernon graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1951. He married Cleo Mae McClelland on September 13, 1952, at North Reading Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2006.
Vernon served in the Army during the Korean War. He farmed and worked at the factory for Hayes in Albion and West Unity. Vernon enjoyed woodworking and attended Open Door Bible Church.
Surviving are his three children, Cheryl Modin, Karen Shoemaker, and Keith (Laurie) Crandall, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three step-children, Darlene, Ronda and Duane and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Bruce Crandall son-in-law’s, Tim Shoemaker and Mike Modin, second wife, Gladys Crandall, parents, brother, Donald Crandall and sister, Helen Patterson.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor John Poole officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M until time of service. Private interment of his ashes will take place at Reading Cemetery in Reading at a later date.
