Rollin Twp. Planning Commission Approves Site Plan for Dollar General Store

Manitou Beach, MI – Over 60 people were in attendance Thursday afternoon for a Planning Commission meeting in Rollin Township. Many were there to express their displeasure with the proposed construction of a Dollar General store at the corner of Manitou Road and Main Street. The item before the commission was to vote for or against the site plan submitted to the township.

A site plan, essentially, is a drawing of a piece of property which shows existing and proposed uses for a given area. Site plans usually show buildings, roads, parking, drainage, lighting, landscaping, etc.

Some residents asked the board to not approve the plan, saying that a Dollar General is not needed in their community because there is already a location on nearby US-223. Opponents also stated concerns about noise, light, trash, safety, conditions of the current area stores, and even questioned the filing process itself.

The plan was approved by a 3-2 vote. (Yes- Doug Kapnick, Dave Briggs, Michael Leonard. No- Michael Clark, Todd Crane. Absent- Sheryl Walker, Pauline Brosamer). Below is a link to the full video of the meeting:
