Stanley (Red) Swayman – Grand Rapids

Stanley (Red) Swayman, passed away on September 3, 2024, after a battle with dementia, following a hospital stay. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis, his daughter-in-law, Cindy Swayman and granddaughter, Kellie Swayman as well as his parents, Elie & Sophie Swayman and brother, Bert and sister-in law, Flo.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children, Kirk & Sandy Swayman, Scott Swayman, Sidney & Alan Thoms, Shelley & Rick Regensburg and daughter by marriage, Kim Swayman and mother-in-law, Mary Lou Jefferys; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was blessed with adopted children: Abraham, Christy, Tayo, Lade and Akin and their families. He will also be missed by his nephews, Bob and Ken Swayman and their families as well as many longtime friends.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Stan was a star football player at Erasmus Hall High School and attended Michigan State University on a football scholarship, where he met his first wife of 39 years. After her death, he married Beverly and they had 35 blessed years together.

Stan was General Sales Manager for L & L Distributing for more than 40 years; he was also a Scout Master, a high school swimming official and a good friend. He had a hearty sense of humor and was well known for his ability to tear a phone book in half with his bare hands. He loved travel, fishing and sports. He volunteered for many years in a hospital as well as for the Challenger Space Center in Arizona.

Private graveside services will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The family would like to thank Elara Caring Hospice for their assistance in his final days. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Earth & Space Expedition Center in Phoenix in his honor would be appreciated.
