Donald Raymond Payne, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Hospice of Lenawee Home. He was born on June 25, 1938, in Mexico, Missouri to the late James and Marion Payne. On May 5, 1979, Donald married the love of his life, Margie “Sharon” Westfall, in Adrian. They celebrated over 45 years together before her passing on June 10, 2024.
After retiring from the Adrian Police Department, Donald worked for the Sheriff’s Office. He also worked as a bailiff and served papers for the court. Donald was a parishioner of Holy Family Parish. In his free time, Donald enjoyed fishing, but most importantly his world revolved around his wife, family, and friends.
To cherish his memory, Donald leaves a stepdaughter, Michelle (Alex) Nieto of Adrian; a stepson Chad (Aimee) Wilkins of Tecumseh; four grandchildren, Caleb Nieto, Nathan Nieto, Courtney Hernandez, and Cody Wilkins; two great-grandchildren, Giovani and Ayana Hernandez; and a sister, Audrey (Jim) Dills. In addition to his wife and parents, Donald was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Robinson and Mary Payne.
A memorial mass will be celebrated by Father Michael Newman, OSFS, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Campus. Rite of Committal will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church for one hour prior to mass.
