Adrian, MI – The family of Dakota Courington, the 15-year-old boy who is in the hospital after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in the City of Adrian earlier this month, held a candlelight vigil Saturday night.

The crash, near the intersection of Clinton and Chestnut Streets, took place shortly after Noon on Friday, August 9th. Dakota was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Dozens of family, friends, and community members were at the vigil for the teen who was getting ready for his freshman year at Adrian High School. His father, Jack Courington, told WLEN News that he was glad that the community came out to support his son. He said that he was proud of Adrian.

The public has been helping the family through submitting tips to police, financially helping the family, and being emotional support.

Jack told WLEN News that there have been many tips and leads in the search for the suspect vehicle and driver…and that he is proud of the work that the Adrian Police Department is doing.

Dakota’s father said that he is using a breathing and feeding tube at the hospital. He said that he will be there for a while, and that there is a lot of rehab to undertake. Jack said that doctors tell him that Dakota is making progress…that he will be able to walk and talk, but he will not be the same as before the crash.

Jack told WLEN News that hopefully the candlelight vigil will result in the suspect turning themselves in…because the community will stand up for victims.

The family has set-up a Facebook page called ‘Justice for Dakota’ to post updates on his condition.
