
George James North, age 102, of Adrian, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Charlotte Stephenson Manor in Adrian surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 17, 1921, in Raisin Township, the son of Guy L. and Esther H. (Bisewski) North.
George met his future wife, Virginia M. Golembiewski while working together at H. W. Tuttle Company. They married on November 21, 1942. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2016. George entered the U.S. Army in 1942 at Fort Custer. He proudly served on the front lines in Italy as a Staff Sargent during World War II. When he returned, George worked at Kewaunee Manufacturing in Adrian for 32 years as a welder. He personified the phrase, “a good neighbor” ready to help at all times.
George is survived by his three children, George (Sue) North, Jr., Linda M. Sloan, and Susan (Chris) Ehinger; six grandchildren, Jeffrey North, Bryan (Joyce) North, Joshua (Belia) North, Mandi Strayer, Jennifer (Steve) Krause, Jessica Sloan, and Kacie Ehinger; special great-grandsons, Daniel Beddingfield, Brandon Rau, and numerous other great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a devoted nephew, Greg North and his wife Dee, and several other special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, Patricia Duncan, a son-in-law, Ron Sloan, two brothers, Harold (Josephine) North and John (Delores) North, sister, Mildred (Ed) Ryder, a brother-in-law, Rupert Miller.
The family of George would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers from Hospice of Lenawee and Charlotte Stephenson. They were great friends to him during his stay and we were very comforted to know that Dad had such good people to be with.
Funeral Services for George will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, with Pastor Bobby Baum officiating at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Adrian with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #97 of Adrian. Visitation will be held from 11:30 A.M. until time of service on Saturday.
