Madison Twp., MI – The Lenawee County Board of Commissioners decided to move forward with a large tree removal project around the Lenawee County Airport in Madison Township. County Administrator Kim Murphy talked to WLEN News after the Commission decided to move forward with a tree removal project…

The Federal Aviation Administration, and the State of Michigan, are requiring clearing of obstacles in the airspace within a certain area near the facility. If the County doesn’t undertake this project, which will be nearly one hundred percent reimbursed, the airport will lose federal funding. Lenawee County Administrator Kim Murphy spoke with WLEN News about the project…

Administrator Murphy says that the property owners will be paid based on the value of their property after the easement is applied…

Murphy also talked to WLEN News about the options homeowners in the area can choose…

The County Commission has decided to not enforce an existing ordinance regarding avigation easements near the airport…

Murphy talked about how this project will be funded, saying that the county will pay upfront, and then they will get about 95% of it reimbursed…

If the anticipated schedule holds true, actual removal of trees and other items in the easement would begin November, 2025. If you want to read more about the project, click the following link to the Lenawee County website: https://lenaweecomi.portal.civicclerk.com/event/161/files/attachment/759
